Battle at the Pier - IFC #9 - takes place Saturday October 2nd at 8 pm. This is our second visit to the fine Pier Hotel in North Van, at the foot of Lonsdale Ave. You will be treated to a fine night of buffet dining, and an exciting night of MMA and Kickboxing. As one of the 2 "fight docs" that will be attending ringside, I can attest that these hard working amateurs train hard every day to showcase their skills on a local level. Many of them go on to fight in bigger events world wide.
If you have never seen the competion and sport of MMA or Kickboxing, I invite you to check it out. A tremendous amount of skill is involved in many different facets of the "fight game". From boxing skills, to take-downs and throws, to wrestling and ground fighting like Brazilian jiu-jitsu, there are many ways a fighter can win, and lose!
Check back after the event for a recap and news from the events!

Battlefield Fight League Event
Written by philippe
I was lucky and had the pleasure of being one of 2 ring Doctors at the most recent Battlefield Fight League event on May 15th, at the Rocky Mountaineer Station in Vancouver! I must say it was very well run, and had to be one of the best produced shows I've been to. As a Sports Chiropractor, I am often called upon to participate at "on field events." In this case, the goal was to NOT be busy, as usually otherwise this means someone has been seriously hurt. The night started off as a "slow" night, as my colleague Dr. Rondeau stated, but just as he said that, one of the fighter's suffered an eye gouge by an errant toe! Unfortunately we had to send him to the hospital as he had some blood leaking into his outer chamber of his eye. Luckily, he will likely fully recover. The rest of the night was marked by several rear-naked chokes, followed by a great finale main event between Tak Sasaki fighting out of Wolf's Den in North Van and Chris Day from Kelowna. Eventually, Tak Sasaki decisioned Chris Day in and exciting fight, showcasing excellent skills while standing and on the ground.
A special word of encouragement to philippemacinnes.com - sponsored athlete Marcus Hicks and his Total Package Sports Management Team's fine effort on the night. Several of his athletes showed much heart, taking fights on short notice, yet still doing well. Congratulations to Nick Marinos and Sarah McLeod on their exciting victories on the night!

This is a great video in "a day in the life of" for an NFL football player. What's great is that most high level athletes are utilizing the benefits of Chiropractic on a weekly basis to prepare their bodies for the brutal grind of an NFL season. Watch this video!
Dr. MacInnes Part of New NV city Athletic Commission
Written by philippe
At a recent meeting of the NV city council, myself, Jim Tessman, and Mike Pattenaude made an application to fill vacant positions on an athletic commission for North Vancouver. After a 5-2 vote in favour, in lieu of the previously proposed abolishment of the commission, we were happy to convince council members of its value.
The value comes in the fact that fighting, ie boxing and martial arts events, including MMA, are currently unregulated in North Vancouver, so promoters and fighters can stage events the are unfair or unsafe. Now with a commission in place, we have a great deal of say as to how and where events occur, and we can control the medical exams and check-ups for the fighters, and more effectively enforce suspensions across the country. Increased safety of the fighters is paramount, and maximized with more regulation.
Those of us on the commision are looking forward to great events coming up that hopefully grow to involve some bigger events leading up to a UFC in Vancouver next summer!
All the best,
